“The bulk of translation work in multicultural societies is focused on official documents (birth certificates, marriage contracts, passports, travel documents and so on). Preserving the information integrity of such documents in terms of accuracy, precision and clarity is of paramount of importance. Authorities need to establish the veracity and authenticity of such documents to enable them to make informed decisions about relevant matters and generally speaking document holders need to make sure that the information in their documents is conveyed with high fidelity.

The purpose of this book is to explain the basic principles of translating official documents into English. It is aimed at translators who are commissioned to provide authenticated translations of a variety of official documents. It is designed with translator training in mind.”
